Welcome to Arba Minch University
Arba Minch University is nestled at the foot of Gamo Gofa Mountain ranges, facing the huge Abaya and Chamo Lakes in an idyllic surroundings. It forms part of the East African Rift Valley and has a historical foundation dating back to the late 1980s.
Initially, Arba Minch Water Technology Institute (AWTI) was established in September 1986 to address water-related issues. AWTI offered short and long-term trainings, conducted research, and provided consultancy services in the water sector. In 1993, AWTI was transferred to the Ministry of Education to produce qualified manpower.
Over the years, AWTI evolved into Arba Minch Technology Institute (AMiT) in September 1997, with the addition of new departments such as Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Meteorology, Computer Science, Information Technology, and Architecture. In 2002, AMiT launched postgraduate programs in various engineering disciplines.
In 2004, AMiT was further upgraded to the level of a university and became Arba Minch University. Presently, the university offers 71 undergraduate and 89 graduate programs, including 12 PhDs. It consists of an institute and six colleges situated across six campuses.
